Morocco's athlete Boulami disappointed by to suspension decision

Originally published

Moroccan steeplechase world record-holder, Brahim Boulami, told MAP he was disappointed by the decision of the Court Arbitration for Sports (CAS) Wednesday to suspend him for two years for doping.

"I will continue training to prove in the track that I did not take any prohibited substance," he said.

Boulami has always maintained his innocence since he was tested positive for endurance-enhancing drug erythropoetin in Zurich (Switzerland), one day before he beat his own world record in the steeplechase, clocking 7 minutes 53.17 seconds.

Last February, the Moroccan Athletics Federation cleared Boulami and criticized the testing method as non-scientific.

The two-year suspension will rule Boulami out of Athens Olympics in August 2004.
