Turabi is permitted to travel to Doha

The Islamist Sudanese opposition member Hassan al-Turabi left Khartoum yesterday in a visit to Qatar, according to his family, just one month after the lifting of his home arrest that was imposed on him by the authorities.

His wife Wesal al-Mahdi said that Turabi headed for Doha at the invitation of al-Jazeera satellite TV to take part in a religious program.

This trip is his first journey outside the country since he was released on October 13 after he had spent almost 3 years under "home arrest."
