Benflis refuses Balkhadem call to a unification conference

Originally published

Algeria's Minister of State For Foreign Affairs Abdul Aziz Balkhadem, the leader of the "Correction Movement" in the A;gerian National Liberation Front, which opposes the current secretary general of the front, Ali Benflis, said that the movement will hold a press conference in the mid of the second half of December with the aim of unifying the party. A matter which was rejected by Benflis circles.

Balkhadem described this conference as "a unification," noting that he will discuss the political line of the National Liberation Front and its regulatory rules and electing its leadership." He considered that Benflis "has the ability to prepare for one united conference in order to put an end to the current differences." Balkhadem stressed that 75 parliamentarians from the National Liberation Front and 3,000 parliamentarians in the local societies "as well as a large number of activists" joined the Correction movement.

Balkhadem said that "reconciliation is for coexistence among the people of Algeria in their various views without any exception and margining," stressing clinging to "reflect the concept of reconciliation on the ground." In a statement, the spokesman for the National Liberation Front, Abdul Rahman Mujahed, announced the rejection of this offer, considering that the "reconciliation conference idea seems false and baseless."
