Originally published

Syrian businessman from Aleppo, Sameer Nashar, announced yesterday that more than 200 lawyers from various parts of Syria signed a petition in which they expressed their readiness to take part in a defending commission for 14 civil activists who were brought before the military court under the charge of being members in a secret society and provoking conflict and sedition within the nation.

The penalty for this accusation is three years imprisonment. It is expected that the first trial session to be held on October 22nd. Nashar said that this is the first time in which 200 lawyers propose to work in the same case.

The 14 sued men belong to various social strata and they were brought to the military judiciary when they were attending a seminar on reforms in Syria. They were arrested after the seminar, and most of them were released after spending one night in prison, and a decision was issued to bring them before the military attorney.
