Egyptian envoy to al-Qathafi to convince him stay in the AL

The Egyptian minister of information Safwat al-Sharif visited Libya on Saturday in an attempt to convince Tripoli to "stay within the Arab family" following Libya's repeated requests to pullout from the Arab league AL in protest of its "discrepancy."

The Egyptian TV announced that Sharif handed over the Libyan leader a message from the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak: "stressing the need for Libya's stay within the Arab family despite hurdles and problems." For his part, Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi conveyed to Mubarak a message in which he discussed his "view point concerning the Palestinian- Israeli conflict and conditions in Iraq," considering "it is necessary to take measures in order to get the Arab nation out of its crisis."

Mubarak visited Libya in May this year and announced following his meeting with al-Qathafi that Libya had given up its request to pullout form the Arab League. But al-Qathafi asked last week the People's Committees in Libya to approve applying for an official request for withdrawal.
