Chirac opposes sanction against Syria
France stressed yesterday its opposition to impose sanctions against Syria. In a statement to the press in Morocco, President Jacque Chirac of France asserted that France is in general very reserved or rather opposes all the sanctions measures which prove, historically, that they are inefficient and create many difficulties.
"We, first of all, have strong reservations against imposing any sanctions and in this particular case we don't support imposing sanctions on Syria," Chirac added.
In response to a question on the possibility of imposing American sanctions on Syria, Chirac stressed that the US Congress is trying to impose such sanctions but not the American government.
Chirac expressed deep concern regarding the latest developments in the Middle East.
