Syria denies involvement in spying case in Guantanamu
Syria denied yesterday any involvement in the spying case which resulted in the detention of two American military men in the US base in Guantanamu, Cuba.
The new Syrian minister of information Ahmad al-Hassan said yesterday in his first meeting with journalists in Damascus, replying to information which said that the US translator of Syrian origin in Guantanau base worked for the Syrian intelligence.
Al- Hassan said that this "news is baseless and in contradiction to logic." He questioned "how can Syria can have spies in Guantanamu? The matter contradicts with logic and reason. He also questioned if the American intelligence is unable to find a trustworthy translator."
The US NBC TV and the New York Times said that the translator was in particular accused of providing information including 180 pieces of information he was about to send to Syria.
