Settlement of Sahara issue lies in security guaranteed by Moroccan kingy, Sahrawi notables

The only alternative to the latest plan of UN Secretary General's personal envoy to the Sahara, James Baker, which can not be accepted, consists in the kingdom's democratic institutions and the security guaranteed by Morocco, a delegation representing Sahrawi populations of Moroccan southern provinces said in Spain Tuesday.

The delegation, currently on a tour to Spain where it held meetings with several officials to express the Sahrawi population's refusal of Baker's plan, said the plan cannot be accepted for it does not guarantee Morocco's territorial integrity and sovereignty and because it is heedless of the situation of Sahrawi populations. The latest version of the proposal can only be a source of instability, they warned.

Member of the consultative council in charge of Sahrawi affairs, Khalil Dkhil, who leads the delegation, called the Spanish civil society and the media to help "the Sahrawi populations sequestered in Tindouf return to their homeland, Morocco." For her part, Kalthoum Khayat, former Polisario official, denounced the torture and exclusion of the Sahrawi populations sequestered by the Polisario, underlining that the secessionist group gathers wealth under humanitarian pretexts, at the detriment of their victims.

The delegation will carry on its tour to other Spanish provinces to express its stand over the Sahara issue.
