Sahrawi delegation holds talks with Spanish officials

Originally published

A delegation of representatives and notables of Sahrawi populations held talks here Monday with Spanish secretary of state for external affairs, Ramon Gil Casares.

The delegation, led by member of the consultative council in charge of Sahrawi affairs and former member of the Sahrawi assembly, Khalil Dkhil, told the Spanish official the Sahrawi population totally rejects the latest settlement plan by the UN secretary general personal envoy for the Sahara.

The delegation, which started on Sunday a visit to Madrid where it will be meeting Spanish Mps, representatives of political parties and the media, argued that the plan threatens to destabilize the region, harm Morocco's sovereignty, and jeopardize the ongoing process to associate the local populations in the Moroccan southern regions' democratic and development process.

The group of Sahrawi notables will further meet the leaders of the opposition Labor socialist part (PSOE) and the ruling popular party (PP).

Another delegation is currently on a similar mission in France, Great Britain and Germany.
