Moroccan-Spanish commissions to meet shortly

Originally published

The Moroccan-Spanish joint commissions will meet "very shortly" to start implementing the accords reached by the two neighbor countries, Moroccan Communication Minister, Nabil Benabdallah said on Thursday.

Benabdallah, who is also Spokesman for the Moroccan government, said these commissions will meet within the frame of efforts made by Madrid and Rabat to establish "solid, deep and sound relations."

Moroccan-Spanish relations strained over the past year mainly due to Spanish standpoints that Morocco deemed hostile to its interests. However, a Moroccan Royal decision to exceptionally allow Galician ships, affected by the oil slick caused by the wreckage of the prestige ship off Spanish shores to fish in Morocco, blew a warm breath to the cold ties between the two countries.

Following the move, Morocco and Spain signed Monday an accord whereby 64 Galician ships will fish in Moroccan grounds without financial compensations, for three months, renewable according to the developments on the ground.
