Morocco says it always sought dialogue to settle problems with Spain

Originally published

Morocco on Tuesday said it has always preferred dialogue and the spirit of entente as the best means to settle problems with Spain.

Morocco has a sincere will and a future-oriented vision for the establishment of sound and balanced relations with Spain, an approach likely to help the two neighbor nations take up shared challenges, Moroccan Delegate Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Taieb Fassi Fihri, told the upper house of the Moroccan parliament.

Moroccan-Spanish relations are important and strategic, he said, adding the two nations' potentials plead for the promotion of bilateral cooperation in all realms.

Fassi Fihri, who recalled the importance of a bilateral 1991 Friendship, Cooperation and Neighborliness Treaty, deplored the tension in Moroccan-Spanish relations, particularly after the failure of Morocco-European Union negotiations for the renewal of a four-year fisheries accord.

He underlined the importance of dialogue to put relations back on their normal track, based on mutual trust.
