Sudanese parliament extends emergency for one more year
The Sudanese parliament has approved with a great majority yesterday to extend the emergency status the country lives under for another year starting January 2003, at a request submitted by the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir this month.
The Sudanese news agency said that the decision was taken at yesterday's session following the launch of the joint report of the two national committees of security and defense and legislation and justice which they explained the security justifications which require the extension of the state of emergency declared since 2000 following the split in the ruling Islamic movement and resulted in alienating Hassan al-Turabi from decision centers.
