Moussa suggests turning south Sudan reconstruction Fund to Arab Authority
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa suggested on Thursday turning the South Sudan Reconstruction Fund, which affiliated to the Arab League, to an Arab authority.
Addressing the opening session of a round-table meeting by the Arab League member states and Arab investment funds, Moussa underlined the importance of rallying Arab efforts to back the development march in South Sudan.
Moussa said he will, in cooperation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Moustafa Othman Ismail, arrange for a meeting by the Arab non-governments organizations to determine the needs of South Sudan.
He said the Arab League meeting comes in light of the major developments in Sudan as regards the Machakos negotiation that seek to end the long-standing civil war in Sudan.
Moussa said the Machakos negotiations provide for holding a general referendum after six years and this, he added, requires the Sudanese government and Arab states to work in this period on re-constructing South Sudan and preserving the integrity of the Sudanese lands.
