Sudan to rebels: you cannot have peace and guns

Originally published

The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa on Tuesday in Cairo discussed with the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael latest developments of conditions on the Sudanese arena in light of the decision taken by the Sudanese government to suspend the talks with the rebels movement in Sudan.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed several ideas debated at the council of the Arab foreign ministers in dealing with the Sudanese issue, including appointing an envoy for the AL secretary general for Sudan and founding a ministerial committee to follow up the Sudanese file and reactivate the AL Fund for rebuilding southern Sudan.

In a joint press conference he held with the secretary general of the Arab League following the talks, Ismael said that the decision of the Sudanese government to suspend the negotiations with the rebels represents a message to the movement in that the government calls for a genuine peace, and this is made through negotiations rather than the military acts, besides being a message to the world especially those who are mediating now in the negotiations on that " we will not talks into two languages. the language of peace and that of the gun."
