Mashakos negotiations rule out alternative presidency; discussions on resources sharing

Originally published

The Sudanese News agency quoted the advisor for the Sudanese presidency as asserting that the delegations of both the government and the rebels to Mashakos negotiations are heading to dealing with sharing resources despite the fact that they "have not reached a solution on authority sharing."

The agency quoted the minister of state at peace consulate Dio Matouk as saying "things are interrelated and it is difficult for the negotiators to solve one apart from the other." He added that the negotiations atmospheres are "appropriate" and called for keeping these atmospheres as such until peace can be established.

He indicated that both the government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army ( the southern rebels) will discuss security arrangements following the "success" of negotiations in other issues. Matouk continued that the government has agreed to discuss the issues relating to the areas of al-Nouba mountains, Anghasta and Abi during Mashakos negotiations.
