Sudanese negotiations on October 14
An agreement was reached between the Sudanese government and the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) to approve a truce and resume peace negotiations on October 14.
The Inter Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD) said in a statement that "following consultation between the Sudanese government and the SPLA, the two parties agreed to resume negotiations on October 14."
The statement of IGAD which includes seven countries from East Africa said that "in order to find out the appropriate atmospheres for the negotiations, the two sides agreed to halt aggressive acts in all areas and to abstain from launching military attacks."
Khartoum government stopped peace negotiations with the rebels in September after the SPLA occupied Tourit town in the south in military operations that coincided with the negotiations. Khartoum said it will not return back to the table of negotiations unless a cease- fire is enacted.
