Amnesty commends release of Naal, calls for release of others
Amnesty International yesterday commended the Syrian authority's release of the communist Haitham Naal but also called for the release of other three Syrians who suffer health problems.
In a statement on Wednesday, Amnesty International welcomed the release of Naal ( 51 year old) who was accused of planning to attack western interests in Syria, and the organization called for the release of other three people who had been jailed for 27 years and their health conditions are deteriorating.
The spokesman for the opposition democratic national coalition, Hassan Abdul Azeem, expressed his concern over the conditions of political detainees. In a statement, Abdul Azeem called on sides concerned to change their detention conditions as these political detainees are being held in "individual separate and unhealthy cells." Abdul Azeem also called for improving the detainees detention conditions and permit them to have access to books, TV and radio "in implementation of the obligation the Syrian authorities had committed to concerning human rights."
