Originally published

The US ambassador at the UN John Negroponty will carry out a Middle East tour next week and Syria will be his main destination in its being a new member at the UN Security Council.

News reports quoted the ambassador of the US office at the UN in a statement on Wednesday that he will start his tour from Egypt on January 19th and then head for Syria, Jordan and Lebanon and then Israel and will conclude his tour on January 25th.

The statement added that US ambassador will discuss during his tour the available means to cooperate on issues to be debated at the UN Security Council concerning UN issues.

The reports added that Negroponty has basically wanted to visit Syria only but he decided to expand his tour to include Cairo, Amman, Beirut and Israel.

Worthy mentioning that Syria has started as from the beginning of January this year a non- permanent membership to the UN Security Council for two years and its representative to the UN Security Council could get in the first meeting he attended the consent of the council to listen regularly to reports from UN officials about confrontations in the occupied Arab territories.
