Young man gets five year prison sentence for mosque aggression

Originally published

The Cleverland court on Wednesday sentenced a young man to 5 years in prison for having crashed his car against an Islamic center in Cleverland, Ohio, six days after the September 11th attacks.

Eric Ashley, 19 pleaded guilty and was sentenced for theft, ethnic intimidation and vandalism, Associated Press reported.

Eric Ashley acknowledged having gone up the three stairs of the mosque, through two doors, one meter high wall and three pillars, and into a fountain. Ashley first told the police he had been shocked by the attacks against the World Trade Center and later on conceded that he was drunk but denied that his act was dictated by religious fanaticism or sectarianism.
