Well-informed sources reported that Tunisia has nominated former minister Habib Buleraas to replace also the Tunisia Muhammad Amamou as a secretary general for the Arab Maghreb federation, whose headquarters is in al-Rabat.

Amamou has occupied this post since 1991 for three successive terms of office.

The sources explained that contacts were made between the member states in the Arab Maghreb federation over selecting a new secretary general for the federation resulted in the unanimous selection of Buleraas, who had the post of the Tunisian prime minister in the mid of the 1990s. He was a minister of information by the end of the 1980s before he had the post of the foreign minister for a short time during the second Gulf war.

It is, however, expected that the Arab Maghreb federation's foreign ministers will in their meeting to be held on Thursday and Friday in Algiers ratify the nomination of Buleraas as a secretary general for the federation.

The ministers will discuss the possibility of convening al-Maghreb summit suspended since 1995, in Algiers in order to reactivate the federation's establishments.
