Originally published

The Maghreban Space, set up last May in Oujda (Morocco), dedicated its activities in Algiers this January 11-12 with a seminar on Maghreban cultural communication.

The seminar first elected Algerian Abderrachid Boukarzaza to the position of chairman of the Maghreban Space and Moroccan Abdelali Mestour as secretary general.

The Casablanca-based Maghreban Space defines itself as a non-government democratic, social and cultural association endeavoring for Maghreban unity.

The seminar also elected a 15-member secretariat general, a 51-member coordination council, comprising 10 delegates from each of the five Maghreban countries (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia), in addition to a Libyan national in recognition for services extended to the Maghreban unification.

The association was invited by the Algerian foreign ministry to attend the Arab Maghreb Union foreign ministers meeting slated for January 17-18 in Algiers.
