Maher repeats Egypt's rejection of US strikes against any Arab country

Originally published

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher ruled out the expansion by the United States of its war against what it calls terrorism to include an Arab country, namely Iraq.

Maher reiterated Egypt's rejection of attacking any Arab country.

In statements to the Qatari AL Jazeera, Maher said the information Egypt has on this score is belying this possibility.

"Our information is that the United States is aware of the danger of launching military attacks on the Arab region, now that there is no need for this," said Maher.

"We know the Chinese stand...we did not ask China for confirmation, but we know that China does not approve of taking the military operations in Afghanistan outside it, except within the framework of international legitimacy and the supply of an evidence on a specific crime," he elaborated.

"I have said before that the united states would not resort to this option because it knows it would backfire on US -Arab relations in general and stability in the Middle East region," he said.
