King Mohammed holds phone talks with president Arafat
Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Saturday renewed to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat the Moroccan people's unconditional backing to the Palestinian people and to their legitimate leadership in these difficult circumstances.
This came in phone talks between Arafat and the sovereign on the situation in the Palestinian territories.
President Arafat requested King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to initiate moves to protect the Palestinian people and stop the Israeli forces' aggressions against them.
In the message of congratulations he sent to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Aid Al-Fitr, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, President Arafat appealed to the sovereign in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to urgently intervene and double efforts with the United Nations and with all peace-loving powers with a view to stopping the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, their holy shrines and territories, securing them an international protection and finding an international mechanism likely to compel the Israeli government implement the already concluded accords and arrangements.
King Mohammed VI on his part voiced, in the messages of congratulations he sent to Muslim leaders on the occasion of Aid Al-Fitr, deep concern over the deterioration of the situation in Palestine. He called the Arab and Islamic Ummah (nation) to cement ranks and to back the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people, under the leadership of the head of the Palestinian National Authority, President Yasser Arafat.
