Originally published

Morocco rejects all attempts meant to eliminate the Palestinian National Authority, said Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.

Benaissa, who was addressing in Doha Monday the extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), said that Morocco, which contributed from the very beginning to international efforts to put an end to the Middle East region and to restore stability, security and peace in the region, rejects all attempts to eliminate the Palestinian National Authority.

Any such attempt is doomed to failure and will have a negative impact on the whole region, Benaissa said.

He called on the international community and on all peace-loving people to pressure Israel to stop its plans and to go back to the negotiations table, as negotiations are the sole alternative to reach a genuine, fair and lasting peace in the region and to establish an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.

Benaissa stated further that the difficult situation have necessitated this meeting requires the adoption of a clear, firm stand up to the evolution of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and its incidence on the security, stability and peace in the Islamic world.

He also pointed out that the deterioration of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories makes it necessary for the international community and the peace sponsors -the USA, Russia and the European Union- to dispatch the soonest possible international observers to Palestine to protect the Palestinian people against the daily aggressions directed against them and to put an end to the bloodshed of innocent civilians.

Benaissa insisted on the need to conduct an urgent Islamic action to convince the international community as to the seriousness of the situation in Palestine and its contingent repercussions on security and peace in the whole region. He also called for the setting up of a panel that will assess the situation and regularly report to the Islamic summit chairman so that the appropriate decisions be made at a high level.
