EU holds Israel responsible for serious deterioration
European Parliament President Nicole Fontaine held Israel responsible for the grave deterioration in the Middle East process and for weaking the Palestinian Authority's position.
At a press conference that followed the opening session of the European summit in the Belgian Royal Laeken Palace in Brussels on Friday, she said that the PA is asked to play a role that poses a danger to its very existence.
And the Israeli government, instead of helping it, is adding to its embarrassment by its daily practices and limits imposed on it, she added.
She said her call to dispatch international observers to the region, which received the support of all European leaders, is a message directed to Israel to change its position.
It is also directed to the international community to intervene and pressure the Jewish state to accept the observers who provide the only solution to the current serious situation in the region, she added.
Fifteen European leaders are attending the two-day summit.
