Indonesian Muslim group persuades disco to close during fasting month

Originally published

A thousand members of the Indonesian Islam Defenders Front (FPI) at dawn on Friday persuaded a discotheque in Central Jakarta to close down during the Ramadan fasting month until one week after the Idul Fitri celebration (marking the end of Ramadan) in mid-December.

The decision to close down the "One Thousand-and-One Nights" disco temporarily was agreed upon in a negotiation between the group's leaders, the disco management, the local 'lurah' (head of the smallest public administration unit in a town), and security authorities.

The thousand members of the Front rejoiced upon learning of the content of the agreement, saying it was a victory for true Islamic believers.
