Bush congratulates Lahoud on Independence day

US President George Bush has stressed the US commitment to searching for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle east based on UN Security Council resolutions 242, 338 and 425.

In a cable of congratulations the US President sent to the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of Lebanon's independence, he added that the US backs a prosperous and independent Lebanon. A Lebanon which constitutes an element of peace and stability in the region.

Bush expressed thanks to the Lebanese officials for their condolences and their support following the aggression against the US on September 11 and for taking part in the international campaign against al-Qaida networking.

President Bush added the US considers Lebanon's support for the great effort made to make the world relieved from terrorism, as a very important matter.
