Moroccan delegation hands over urgent humanitarian aid to Algeria
A Moroccan delegation, comprising head of the royal office, Mohamed Rochdi Chraibi, and advisor to the king and member of the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation administrative board, Zoulikha Nasri, arrived on Monday in Algiers to hand over an emergency humanitarian aid extended by Morocco to Algeria that was hit by severe floods over the weekend.
Four C-130 aircraft landed in the airport with 6.5 tons of medicine, 5,500 blankets and 200 tents with a total capacity of 1,200 places, donated by the Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation and the Moroccan government. Thirty civil rescue agents were also put at the disposal of Algerian authorities.
The aid was dispatched upon instructions of King Mohammed VI to help victims of the tragedy and alleviate their sufferings.
Nasri told the press Morocco was deeply affected by the tragedy and it was normal that the Mohammed VI solidarity foundation, which takes care of needy persons inside and outside Morocco, stands with the Algerian people.
General Larbi Belkhir, head of the Algerian president's office, said he "highly appreciates" the gesture of King Mohammed VI and expressed the Algerian president's thanks to the Moroccan King, government and people for the act of solidarity with the Algerian people.
