French trucker arrested with 19 tons of chira in Moroccan port

Customs and police agents at the northern port of Tangiers arrested this week an Algerian-born French teamster who was trying to smuggle out of Morocco 19 tons of chira.

According to the port authorities, the banned substance was hidden in the French-registered truck in a load of apparel items.

Since the beginning of July, a total of 26,058 kg of chira was seized, more than the seized quantity in the first six months of this year (25,760) and almost equaling the quantities seized in 1999 (26,510 kg).
