15th Arab conference of anti-drugs bodies concludes

Originally published

Heads of Arab anti-drugs bodies said Wednesday in Tunis at the end of their 15th conference that they are against the permission of using some types of drugs.

A statement by the secretariat general for the Arab interior ministers' council said that the participants called member countries to take a firm stand during the next international drugs committee meeting in Vienna.

The statement is against the use of some types of drugs by some European states to prevent the spread of the plague. The conferees called Arab countries to use advanced technology to detect drugs in different border posts to cut down smuggling attempts. They also called Arab states to strengthen judicial cooperation to fight drugs and encourage non-governmental organizations to participate in the fight against drugs. The concerned security, media, education and social sectors should work on uncovering the relationship between drug dealers and terrorist organizations, they said.

Recommendations adopted by the two-day conference will be submitted to the upcoming Arab interior ministers' council session due to be held in Beirut early next year.
