Originally published

Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, on Tuesday headed to Tripoli, first leg of a Maghreb tour that will also lead him to Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

The Arab League chief told reporters he would discuss with the north African leaders latest developments in the occupied territories that he described as worrying.

He underscored the need to carry on inter-Arab consultations to adopt the stands required by the situation.

Talks will also cover ongoing efforts to restructure the league and promote Arab action.

Asked whether the issue of the Moroccan Sahara will be brought up at the talks and what role the league can play in this issue, Amr Moussa said it is necessary to be heeding all that is being said about the Sahara issue that he described as an important Arab issue. However, he insisted, the league would not intervene unless the parties (concerned) clearly ask it to do so.
