Three European officials in Damascus today

Originally published

Each of the British minister of state for foreign affairs Bin Bradshow, the coordinator for the security and political affairs in the European Union Javier Solana, and the EU- ME peace process coordinator Miguel Moratinos arrive today in Damascus separately in visits to discuss the ME peace process with the Syrian leaders.

Each of these three western diplomats will meet separately with the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara in a step that comes following the escalation of the cycle of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories and the increasing fears of a possible escalation at other levels that, according to Syrian sources might drag the region into " regional war as Ariel Sharon is a prime minister in Israel."

While the visits of both Solana and Moratinos fall in the context of their ordinary tour in the region in the framework of the EU efforts to help in finding out solutions for the Israeli- Palestinian conflict, Bradshow visit, as a man who is known for his interest in the Middle East as he worked as a BBC director, with the aim get to know about the actual reality in the region, in his first visit to the region since he assumed his new post just one month ago.
