Originally published

The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa has stressed that member of the Palestinian legislative council Hannan Ashrawi was appointed as a non- resident commissioner general for the media affairs in the AL.

In a statement he made in Cairo on Wednesday Moussa said that the appointment of Ashrawi falls in the course of the AL plan to redevelop and restructure in the joint Arab work system and in the context of appointing several non- resident distinguished commissioners of the Arab figures in the fields of human rights, the civil society and political, economic and cultural areas.

Moussa added that the mission of Hannan Ashrawi will concentrate on explaining challenges facing the cause of Palestine and the Middle East in general to the world public opinion especially the American and European public opinions. For her part, Ashrawi stressed following her meeting with the AL secretary general the importance of having a civilized Arab media address that defies the Israeli racism and unmasks it before the world.

She added she has an integrated media plan she will debate to officials at the AL in order to formulate a contemporary Arab media address away from mere slogans and correct the distorted image of the Israeli, and make aware the western and American media of the Arab reality.
