Originally published

The first Syrian web-site for E- Commerce was launched today in collaboration with the Syrian Scientific Society for the Informatics and the International group for the Internet and Marketing through a workshop on development of the E-commerce in Syria, held on Sunday, in which lectures were read by a professor at the at the Damascus faculty of the economy Dureid Durghan and many others.

It is well-known that E- commerce has not actually started in Syria, as E- commerce for consumers started only with $ 250,000 of sales for this year.

The volume of purchase via the Internet in the Arab states is estimated at $ 150 million for the year 2000. This figure is considered too small when compares with the volume of world purchases of through the Internet.
