Originally published

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak today morning cast his vote in the run-off of the third and final stage of the mid-term elections of the Shura Council (Upper Chamber).

The President was welcomed upon arrival at the polling station in the Heliopolis suburb by Shura Council Speaker Moustafa Kamal Helmy, Minister of Interior Habib el Adli and Cairo Governor Abdel Rehim Shehata.

Commenting on the present situation in the Middle East President Mubarak said he hoped his recent contacts with world leaders could lead to action on the ground to reinforce ceasefire in the occupied territories.

Asked whether there was a timetable for a ceasefire the President said the parties concerned have not yet reached an agreement to this effect.
