UN Security Council extends for UNDOF in the Golan

Originally published

The UN Security Council on Wednesday extended for six months to the UN forces positioned in the occupied Syrian Golan since 1974 on the cease fire line between Syria and Israel.

With a unanimous voting of 15 of its members the UN Security Council renewed the stay of the UNDOF until November 30 of this year 2001.

The UN Security General Kofi Annan had recommended for such an extension; considering that the continued presence of 1038 UN observer troops in the region (the Golan) " is an important matter" but he indicated that the situation there has been calm in general during the past 6 months except the security conditions in the Shebaa farms occupied by Israel " in remarks that the UN considers Shebaa farms Syrians and part of the Golan."
