Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa met with director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohammad AL-Baradi, an Egyptian.

The meeting, which was attended by Egyptian Minister of Electricity Ali Al-Saiedi, tackled promoting bilateral cooperation between the League and the IAEA.

"Talks also took up the activation of joint cooperation in training Arab cadres," said Moussa.

He added that Saiedi presented a number of proposals on boosting pan-Arab cooperation in the field of peaceful application of atomic energy.

In statements after the meeting, Baradi said that talks tackled expanding the current cooperation framework between the League and the IAEA on peaceful applications of atomic energy as well as inspection and disarmament. Asked about an Israeli respond to the call for a disarmed Middle East and possible actions by the IAEA, Baradi said that the agency implements what the member states agree upon.

On the situation in Iraq, Baradi said that IAEA had made it clear to the Security Council that the Iraqi nuclear programme was neutralized and a monitoring system should be set up to ensure that Iraq would not relaunch its program.

Moussa conferred with Jordanian Deputy Premier and Energy Minister Mohammed Halaiqa on preparations for the Arab economic conference, to be held in Cairo in November.

The meeting also took up arrangements for the Arab summit, set to be held in Beirut in March.

Emerging from the meeting, Halaiqa stressed his country's full support for the Arab League and the necessity of activating its role.

Jordanian King Abdullah II gives priority to the issue of activating the Arab League as well as putting into effect the Arab summit resolutions that were endorsed at Amman summit, he added.

The Jordanian Monarch, in his capacity as the chairman of the Arab summit, is expected to pay visits to some Arab countries, he added.

Also, Moussa received Secretary General of the Arab Economic Unity, Ahmed Goweili.
