Quneitra, the capital of the Golan
Qunietra, the capital of the Golan, which the Pope will visit today ( Monday), is located at the feet of Mount Hermon, at a crossroads between Syria, Lebanon, ( Israel) and Jordan.
Its fertile soil and significant location near Damascus made it part of the successive civilizations that flourished in Syria.
Paul the Messenger traveled through Quneitra on his way from Jerusalem to Damascus. Thus the road was named after him "the road of Saint Paul."
All the buildings in the city of Qunietra were systematically destroyed by the Israeli Army a few days before its withdrawal from the city in 1974. Even churches and Mosques were not saved.
The city remains today as an open museum witnessing the brutality of the Israeli aggression.
