Syrian FM insists: no peace without Israel's withdrawal from occupied territories

Originally published

Syrian foreign minister, Farouk Al-Shareh, insisted that peace is impossible in the middle east, unless Israel withdraws from all the Arab territories. The head of the Syrian diplomacy, who accompanied president Bachar Al Assad in his visit to Morocco this week, told Moroccan TV channel "2M" Israel is now in a dire strait after its defeat in south-Lebanon and Israelis will for ever remember the date of May 24, 2000 as a lesson that it cannot go on acting as it wills in the region.

He further insisted that the "suicide" policy pursued by Israeli premier, Ariel Sharon, only consolidated the Palestinian people's resolve to face the Israeli war machine.

He also recalled that last March's Arab summit has given priority to the need to support the Intifadah and the preservation of the identity of Al-Quds.
