IT, communications important for globalization
"The dramatic developments in the Information Technology (IT) and communications in recent years have been one of the main driving forces in the process of globalization," said Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa on Sunday.
"As a result of these developments, we are living today in a new world, a world that bears little resemblance to the old one," he said.
"We are witnessing a profound transformation into what has now become known as the "Knowledge Society," he said.
Experts assert that the new technological paradigm differs from all previous revolutions that contributed to the progress of mankind.
Pervious technological revolutions led to a widening of the gap between those who possessed and those who lacked the tools of those revolutions.
However, the current revolution is different since it has its basis in knowledge.
For the first time in the history of mankind, we are witnessing a revolution that has the capability and potential of narrowing the existing gaps among nations.
We are at the threshold of possibly a most promising era of human fulfillment.
