Egypt will never provide Israel with water

Originally published

Egypt's Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Dr. Mahmoud Abu Zaid, firmly stressed that there is no current or future idea to transport the Nile water to Israel. He added that this file is not at all a subject for discussion at any regional or international level.

In his recent report submitted to the Parliament, Abu Zaid said that Egypt's quota of the Nile water that amounts to 55.5 billion cubic meters is exclusively for Egypt and that the Nile water is the right of the Nile basin solely.

He added that the Nile water will reach Sinai without going beyond international borders explaining that Egypt's agreements with the Nile basin countries imply legal and moral commitments that prohibit exporting the Nile water.

The minister elaborated that Al Salam Lake, which is designed for irrigating 400 thousand feddans at the Suez canal's eastern bank will end to the west of Al Arish. There is no current or future projects to be carried out through the lake outside the Egyptian borders, added Abu Zaid.

The lands to be reclaimed within the project of Al Salam Lake will be exclusive to the Egyptians and there will be no foreign investment therein, affirmed Abu Zaid.
