In its Friday's issue, the Lebanese magazine al-Afkar ( thoughts) that Syrian vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam continues at the meantime to write his diaries since he joined the Baath Party until the war in Lebanon in the spring of 1976 when he came at Baabda palace under the rule of the late Lebanese President Suleiman Franjieh together with Lt. Gen Hikmat al-Shehabi and Lt. Gen. Naji Jami in order to co-ordinate with Lebanon in dealing with the Syrian forces which then entered Lebanon at the request of Franhieh, Kamil Shemon and Pierre al-Gemayel after Jonyeh was besieged from the higher Northern al-Mattin by the forces of the national movement and the Palestinian resistance.
The magazine said that Khaddam told the former Lebanese minister Michael Edde that in these diaries he will try to justify a man who was unjustified by history and that man is the Lebanese President Elias Sarkis, who Khaddam knew in the autumn of 1975 in Stockholm when Sarkis was there as the governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon and attended a conference which was also attended by Khaddam.
