Jibril and the Lockerbie issue
In an interview with the BBC on Saturday, the secretary general of the people's front for the liberation of Palestine- General Command- Ahmad Jibril said " we have been all accused and since the first hours of the Lockerbie incident and before the arrival of the American investigation team to Britain, A fierce campaign started against the front and all means of pressures and terrorism were used."
He added that that front was listed on the agenda of the minutes of meetings held between Syrian and American officials at all levels and for four continued years. They were pressuring Syria. Once they asked for expelling our organization from the Syrian and Lebanese territories and close our offices, camps and based and in other times they say that it can be agreed to hand over Ahmad Jibril or expelling him from Syria and Lebanon.
He continued: the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad had refused all these pressures. He told the US presidents Bush and Clinton " give us the evidences and the clear proofs " on the involvement of the front and Syria will siege Ahmad Jibril in front of all. But we do not accept just mere suspects, and if we do so we would have given a free service to israel by liquidating Arab militants who challenge israel."
Jibril said during the interview that the reason behind the accusation addressed to the front is that arresting a groups of " comrades " who were in charge of carrying acts against Israel and some of them were arrested with their weapons, noting it was proved through investigations that " our brothers ( members of the Movement) who are in Germany have no connection to the Lockerbie issue.
He explained that the agent for the American intelligence in Malta who is a Libyan gave the information about al-Miqrahi and Faheima.
Jibril said that Lockerbie is a political accusation out of which the US administration sought to revenge the Libyan revolution of September 1st after the imbalance in the international forces and this were for several reasons. He said that the front's relation to the Libyan revolution is a militant one and because of that Washington held military raids against Libya. He said: " what is damaging for Libya is bad for us and the same for Syria and the Islamic revolution in Iran.
