Al-Assad sends congratulations to President Bush on election

President Bashar al-Assad of Syria on Tuesday urged new US President George W Bush to work for the realization of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle east.

In a message he sent to the US President in his inauguration as the President for the US, President al-Assad said: " We look forward to see the US, under President Bush playing an effective role to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in our region.

The cable added: " It should be a role that would taken into consideration the related UN resolutions and the American pledges made at the start of the peace process under former President George Bush.

The Cable expressed Syria's desire for making joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Syria and the United States.
