Mauritanian opposition leader detained
The Mauritanian authorities have arrested the leader of the Mauritanian banned Democratic Forces Federation Ahmad Wild Dada upon his arrival in the plane which took him to Paris on Saturday. He was taken to an unknown place, according to leading sources at the said party.
The London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily quoted a high ranking security official as saying that the Mauritanian security will investigate Wild Dada concerning certain meetings he held in Paris as he was attending a conference for the French Socialist Party and that he has to reply questions to this effect.
Moreover, leading figures at the Democratic Forces Federation party were arrested for several days after they were accused of being responsible for acts of disorder which took place in the cities of Nouakchott and Nawadibo in the north of Mauritania.
Worthy mentioning Wild Dada had provoked the rage of the Mauritanian authorities when he made statements concerning Israeli nuclear wastes dumped in the Mauritanian desert. Wild Dada party has also recently tried to launch a strong campaign against Mauritania's continued diplomatic relations with Israel.
