Biological rest as of january 1st for cephalopods
All cephalopod fisheries will stop as of January 1 for a three-month biological reprieve to help replenish stocks between Boujdour and Lagouira (southwestern Atlantic shores), says a release of the fishery department. The biological rest period might be extended to April should the national halieutic Research institute (INRH) deem it necessary, the release points out.
The measure affecting high-sea, coastal and traditional activity was adopted November 16 by the department in a bid to regulate offer in the cephalopod fishery. The meeting chaired by minister Said Chbaatou was attended by major unions and associations and delegates of the South-Atlantic maritime fisheries chamber.
