The ambassadors of the European Union member countries in Morocco are paying this November 16-17 a working visit to the region of Agadir and Taroudant to show the union's interest for a close cooperation with the regions of southern Morocco.

The European diplomats discussed Thursday at a working session with the Wali (senior governor) of Agadir means to enhance cooperation in agriculture, fisheries and tourism.

The financing of a feasibility study to endow the city of Agadir with a tramway network and the prospect of partnership with European countries to carry out the project were discussed.

The improvement of women's condition, promotion of the city infrastructure (water supply, roads networks, including a Marrakesh-Agadir highway…), tourism development, environment protection, and agriculture promotion were among the topics covered at the working session.

The diplomats visited the city port and the construction site of a tourism compound. They will also hold a meeting with "Migration et developpement," a NGO conducting several EU-financed projects.

The European diplomats will visit agricultural and irrigation projects in the Souss Massa region where the French Development Agency is financing several projects. A trip to the village of Agni N'Fad where the German GTZ is financing micro-projects, including a women's cooperative for the production of a typically regional oil and a cooperative for agricultural equipment manufacturing, is also on the schedule.
