Qatar, Russia call for resuming cooperation between the UN and Iraq

The Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem al-Thani on Saturday evening in Moscow called for resuming co-operation between the UN and Iraq.

A statement by the Russian foreign ministry said that the Russian and the Qatari ministers stressed the importance of resuming cooperation between the UN and Iraq in the area of disarmament and this is to be coupled with suspending and then lifting the UN sanctions imposed on Iraq.

The statement added that Ivanov and Sheikh Hamad also agreed to the need of establishing a security and cooperation system provides for non- proliferation of mass- destruction weapons in the Gulf region.
