The speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Abdelouahed Radi said the gap between the two banks of the Mediterranean should be reduced and called for immediate implementation of the Barcelona process.

Addressing the opening session in Naples of the 6th Euro-Mediterranean economic and social summit of economic and social councils and similar institutions, Radi said the blatant economic and social disparities in the area are a serious cause of concern adding conditions for entente and cooperation should be found immediately if Barcelona objectives are to be achieved, a House release said.

The Euro-Mediterranean partnership is a bold undertaking which aims at more equity and lasting development which requires more efforts and political dialog to define strategic targets and execution programs, the speaker of the house said.

The summit, to wind up later today, will adopt a final statement and a motion to the ministerial conference to convene later this month in Marseilles.
