Originally published

A Morocco square was dedicated Friday in Almunecar, in the province of Granada, (500 KM to the south east of Madrid), on the fringes of the 11th Euro-Arab encounter convened here Oct.25-28.

The dedication event translates the deep brotherly and historical ties binding the people of the two shores of the Gibraltar strait, said Moroccan minister of culture and communication, Mohamed Achaari.

The western Mediterranean is called to lay bridges between the past and the present and to join efforts to make of the Mediterranean an area of peace, hope, cooperation and dialogue, Achaari said.

Echoing him, Moroccan minister of territory development, urbanism, housing and environment, Mohamed El Yazghi, said such moves are likely to promote friendly relations between Mediterranean people and challenge the relations that Europe generally maintains with the preople of the southern shore of the Mediterranean.

For the mayor of Almunecar with the dedication of this square, Morocco is now part of the inhabitants' daily life. The Morocco square, he added, evidences the ties of brotherhood between the city inhabitants and the Moroccan people.
